US Military Targeted a 'Big Complex' in Venezuela, Trump Claimed Without Offering Details.

Ex-President Donald Trump has asserted that US forces targeted a "major installation" in Venezuela recently. But, the former president did not specify the exact purpose or location of the strike, and officials have issued no further clarification from his administration.

Unspecific Remarks Made In a Talk Show

"US forces just knocked out – I don't know if you heard – they have a major complex, where the ships depart from. The other night, we took it out. So we targeted them very hard," Trump reportedly informed GOP supporter and businessman John Catsimatidis on Friday.

Possible Significance of a Confirmed Strike

Should a US strike were to be confirmed, it would constitute the initial ground target hit since the Pentagon began a increase of American strike forces in the region to interdict narco-trafficking operations that the former administration alleges operate under the direction of Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro.

This initial mission of the force deployment has since morphed into a blockade aimed at stopping the country's oil exports.

Social Media Video and Official Statements

Trump has for weeks warned that US forces are prepared to escalate the military campaign by hitting targets within Venezuela, a tactic that would theoretically require legislative approval.

Online video shared on social media on 24 December appeared to show an detonation allegedly from an industrial zone in Zulia state. Yet, the video or the site in question has not been confirmed by third parties.

An official from Trump's team allegedly informed a media outlet that the former president was referring to a drug facility in his comments.

Reaction and Current Military Situation

The Maduro government has not commented on the incident the former president described. Furthermore, there have been no verified accounts from within the country concerning it.

The deployment of American forces in the area – a stance certain officials have referred to as a sea blockade – constitutes the broadest maritime enforcement action of Trump's presidency.

Sources have refrained from calling the action as a full blockade, but have acknowledged that about 15,000 troops are stationed across the Caribbean and Gulf of Mexico, including a aircraft carrier group, advanced fighter jets, and law enforcement vessels to uphold existing sanctions.
